Sunny Days.....

I remember when I was a kid I couldn’t wait to get home from school, buy myself a pink icing kiss cake for $1.75 and a chubby for $1.25 and rush home jump out of my school skirt propped up on the couch in my knickers and school shirt to look at Sesame Street. I probably looked at it until I was 13 and no I’m not one bit ashamed.
Sesame Street in those days was the shiz!!  Recently I found myself on you tube searching for the old episodes of Sesame Street since it brought some life to my day. I can’t begin to pick a favorite but I do know my sense of humor is really different that the average person and I spent all of five minutes laughing heartily at Kermit the frog reporting Rapunzel and the prince.
I’ve noticed recently though that sesame street is no longer how it used to be back then and it revolved around Elmo. Now I not hating on Elmo eh but dam that red monster irritating.
I looked at my girlfriends who have kids and noticed that Sesame Street is no longer a “must see” educational programme for kids anymore. I sometimes wonder if they even know Sesame Street exists but then again they now have the privilege of having internet, early childhood gadgets and other “fun” learning devices. The alphabet chart has even evolved to animals I never knew existed.
Now peeps do you all think that kids not looking at Sesame Street now has an impact on their lives?? I know I learnt a whole lot but I’m wondering if these new learning devices are just as effective..lemme know your thoughts…

In the interim, I posted one of my favourites (not one of the educational ones, lol!!)…feel free to do the same and let’s have some laughs. You've got to love Sesame Street…Jus saying

  1. ZOMG! Sesame Street still makes me smile. I find myself quoting random things from it all the time. And there's always an odd moment when people much younger than me don't get the reference.
And I LOATHE Elmo. A friend of mine insists he's the anti-Christ...

  3. Ahhh the good old days, Kiss cake was $1.75, Chubby was $1.25, Sesame Street was at 4, no Elmo's World to end the show, and the internet was only for the rich. Haha Excellent piece Lisa, somehow Sesame Street has lost what it was always about, teaching children the basics about life. Now, apparently a fish can talk. :-/ Great article.

  9. 'I'm an Indian' Lol! No I'm not but the educating against ignorance in such a simple way is so memorable to me that it jumped into my mind instantly when a situation occurred at work that I thought was so funny :)

  11. great piece lisa, i think sesame street is so memorable because it was simultaneously entertaining and educational, also because we couldn't quite grasp it all as young children but as we grew up more and more things started to make sense in different ways as we got 'smarter'. at least that the way it was for me, i remember things in sesame street i enjoyed when i was little but only really understood as a teenager...

  16. stop hating on the little red monster...he annoying now yes...but u know he was cool back in our days.

i think sesame street played a pretty important part in our up bringing, and keeping us from boredom(read: lighting shit on fire) after school. But its modern counter part could never compare and maybe it's because there's so much more to compete with for kids' attention they have to dumb it down and make it more easily digestible...kina like whats goin on with popular music...yes lil wayne...i'm looking at u

  18. Oh yeah, definitely, the Sesame st of yester-year rocked and this one blows. It really has changed into making Elmo the star which is stupid -_-. Sesame Street was my favourite show and for years I never missed an episode, until I was eight. It was a horrific time for me, I felt as though I betrayed Ernie and Bert and Kermit -_-. Sigh, nice flashback though.

  20. I loved Sesame Street as a child! I would also prob get all the episodes for my kids if i were to have. It's not as popular now, because the new episodes are not what they used to be. If they were, we'd all still be watching.
